Future of the "Work" and "Work" we do

If you are vetti like me, and would prophecise the way the future is all about, just have a look at this articleThe future of work and the companies. worth read.. few exerpts are given below for saras & gnana, who anyway is not going to look at it :-)

"The concept of work will undergo a major change. The purely materialistic and physical aspect of work will no longer play an important role. Instead, what will be given preference is the mental aspect consisting of the emotional and social environment. Automation of routine jobs will call for increased creativity and social skills in new jobs that arise."

"Successful companies in the twenty-first century will be able to deliver products which satisfy not just material, functional needs but also emotional needs of consumers. The labour market will also behave like the product market. The corporation will have to satisfy both the emotional and social needs of its employees, not just their pecuniary needs"

"The company will be akin to a tribe of the hunter-gatherer society. Employees will not be on contract. They will be members of the tribe. The survival of the tribe will be of utmost importance."

"Values and intellectual capital will be the assets of the company of the future. Since it will be built on this knowledge base, it need not close down if its line of business is not profitable. It can turn its attention to pursuing activities in areas that are in sync with its core values. This lends the future tribal company a lot of flexibility in shaping and following activities best suited to the interests of its members."

Even before this read & couple of other read itself, I am looking at making 360in as a model like St.Lukes ad. agency or Garner Partner works..where there is no rule...no defined responsibility..no special chairs...it is a hunting ground, where the best work with the best and provides the best and takes the best ... Well i am just 27,534 miiles away from that mission from today :-)

back with LongHorn

Thanks all for sharing my grief. I am back. back with Longhorn, the much awaited next generation operating system from Microsoft. This is what news.com has to say about in its test launch

"graphical look of Longhorn -- particularly its transparency and animated windows -- are reminiscent of Apple's Mac OS X. Other features, such as the thumbnail image that pops up while users are scrolling through a long document, appear to be all-new ideas. The file system has already been well described, but Gates said it will fulfill a long-held vision of his that will pave the way for better searching as well as ways of grouping together e-mail, Web pages and documents that have previously been held in separate 'silos." Complete story here

Like all the stands, Microsoft will launch this in a gala function, but what we need to watch out is the emergence of linux & other unix-cloned operating system which will have tremendous feature rich & cost saving operations to go with. Gates will definitely know this and push the boundries in the longhorn. or that's what i hope to hear from him.

What did u do when you were 9 years older? Have a look @ US tweens

A recent report by AOL featured in emarketer talks about the growing online tweenies [Age 7 - 12 ] population and their online habits. As guessed rite, Playing games online, tops the chart with 87% of the tween population followed by music listening [63%] watch cartoons, movies [36%] and getting information about celebrities [27%] and so on.

This clearly tells the way people young tweens uses Internet. Surfing or browsing for subjects was not even featured at all. Gaming plays an important online habit. We cann't substitute the same for the Indian Urban Kids, but can definitely take a cue from this, that this will be the pathway for the future generations.

Now, marketers must know how to target these kiddies for their products in India. The full report is this.A Look at the Younger Online Population

Silent death of a dot-com

Quite years before, when the dot-com's final anthem was written, we have seen many firms closing down. The cry, sorrow, hype & illfacted optimism paved the increasing death toll for would-be dot-coms. This feature i have read in the morning, reflects, the same. Even after years, post 9/11, economic revival, if you are not worth of your own salt, you will end up like this. Unwarranted optimism and too much futuristic calculations will kill you on your own turf.Dead As a Dot-Com
